Multi-Generational Knowledge Sharing: Courses, Wikis, Gaming, and Virtual Worlds--Oh My!

Breakout Session 9

Thursday, May 1   |    2:45 pm

Presenters: Jeanne Holm, chief knowledge architect, Jet Propulsion Laboratory/NASA, and Marcia Gibson, NASA Engineering and Safety Center Academy program director, National Institute of Aerospace

NASA's "over the rainbow" pursuit of sharing knowledge and experiences has landed in the midst of the "land of knowledge sharing," where there is a blend of traditional and virtual learning worlds. Key examples include the approach adopted by NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC) Academy--which combines traditional classroom courses with online courses, wikis, and forums--and NASA's exploration into immersive synthetic environments, both in the net world via gaming and Web 2.0 technologies and via virtual worlds.

This presentation will focus on strategic directions and implementation choices currently underway and will share some of the experiences and lessons learned in how these "new lands" are helping NASA's work force collaborate to share knowledge and experiences in support of missions, citizen participation and outreach, training, and education.
